On a mission to restore Oklahoma.
Today’s oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners are voluntarily cleaning sites left between 50 and 100 years ago – sites that we work diligently with state and federal regulators to ensure have no existing responsible parties. We take pride in restoring land in the state we call home.
Site criteria.
Common site restoration elements include:
- Removing or burying lease roads and location pads.
- Removing equipment, concrete, trash and debris.
- Repairing erosion and saltwater “scars” left on the land.
- Treating hydrocarbons and closing pits.
How we work with the OCC and BIA.
The OERB works closely with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC), the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) (Osage County) and the Conservation District Office (Osage County) to ensure that potential orphaned/abandoned well site issues are referred to the OERB across Oklahoma (these agencies determine whether a site potentially qualifies for restoration under the OERB’s Voluntary Restoration Program). These agencies may also provide guidance/technical assistance for ensuring that orphaned/abandoned well site issues are addressed in a prudent and appropriate manner. Consequently, these continuing partnerships have resulted in and remain vital to the overall success of this program.
