Contests & Activities
Welcome to the OERB Contests & Activities page.  The OERB hosts four different contests and activities each year for a variety of age groups.  The list below gives a short description of each with the appropriate grade levels.

Where in the World is Petro Pete?
Deadline for this activity is in November of each year.  Students from K-6th grade are eligible to participate. Students are asked to snap a picture of them with Petro Pete using their favorite petroleum by-products.  Petroleum is used to make over 6,000 items from the eraser you use at school to the tennis shoes you wear on your feet!  So, snap a picture of you and Pete with your favorite items for the chance to win some cool prizes and an exciting class party put on by the OERB staff. Click here for more information on Where in the World is Petro Pete?

well site safety Coloring Contest
Students in K-2nd grade are eligible for this contest.  The deadline is in April of each year.  Students are asked to use their creativity in coloring OERB's Petro Pete.  The OERB provides a coloring sheet each year to participating schools.  Winners are recognized at the State Capitol and also have the opportunity to meet their local legislators and visit one of Oklahoma City's exciting museums.  For more information on the
Coloring Contest click here.

well site Safety Poster Contest
Deadline for this contest is in April of each year.  Students from 3rd-6th grade are eligible to participate.  The goal is to inform students about well site safety.  Students are asked to draw a poster with a catchy slogan that warns others about playing around abandoned oilfield equipment.  Winners of this contest are also recognized at the State Capitol and also have the opportunity to meet their local legislators and visit one of Oklahoma City's exciting museums.  Click here for more information on the Poster Contest.

well site Safety Ad Campaign
Deadline is in April of each year.  The OERB has expanded its annual Well Site Safety contest to grades 7 through 12 by introducing an advertising campaign contest. Students in these grades can enter as groups or individuals in two divisions, junior high and high school. Entries have to focus on educating fellow students about the dangers of well sites and why it is important to avoid them. All entries are required to include an original catch phrase in the campaign and should incorporate items like print ads, bumper sticker designs, tee shirt designs, bookmarks and other materials. Winners receive a variety of different prizes and an exciting school assembly hosted by the OERB staff.  To learn more about how to apply click the Ad Campaign link.

Riverside Country Day School students blew us away with their design work.  The winners are part of a visual communications class.  Playing off the idea of the many warning signs found near oil and natural gas well sites, the students created print ads, bumper stickers, tee shirts and bookmarks to support their campaign.

The winner at Okarche Middle School did all the design work herself.  She played off the 1970s music hit, "Staying Alive" to create a slogan that encourages her peers to, "stay off, stay alive, stay lucky" when it comes to well sites.  Jacobs created a poster and bookmark to go along with her campaign.

Students from Covington-Douglas High School were the proud winners of the 10th through 12th grade category.  Their "Safebook: Log off of Well Sites" campaign was a clever take off the popular social networking Web site, Facebook.  The students put together a series of designs from bookmarks to buttons, and even created a mock up "Safebook" page all sure to catch their peers' attention.

Title: "Don't Jack It Up"
School: Little Axe High School
