Students use activity-based modules to learn about the energy industry in science, math, social studies and language arts. By utilizing activities that require critical thinking, students will be preparing for success on standardized tests like the ACT. CORE Energy meets state PASS objectives and is endorsed by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Educators receive a free teacher's guide and activity kit. CORE Energy Mathematics is designed for secondary mathematics teachers (pre-algebra and up). CORE Energy Science is designed for secondary science teachers (physical science and up). CORE Energy Social Studies is designed for secondary social studies teachers (Oklahoma History and up). CORE Energy Language Arts is designed for secondary language arts teachers (grades 9-12). To acquire the CORE Energy curriculum, teachers must attend a day-long workshop in their subject area. The workshops are free, and the OERB reimburses school districts for substitute pay. If a workshop is held on a Saturday or non-school day, the OERB pays a $50 stipend. Educators completing the workshop receive seven (7) Professional Development Hours for CORE Energy Science and six (6) hours for CORE Energy Math, CORE Energy Social Studies and CORE Energy Language Arts. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: Finding petroleum lease locations. Production Profit: revenue and expenses of oil and natural gas. Kit includes: graphing calculator, protractors, Land Survey maps, graph paper and colored pencils.  Language Arts Wild & Wooly: The effective use of detail and imagery in writing. A Sharper Image: The importance of written communication. Opposites Attract: Two unique ways to teach comparison and contrast. The Bingo Daily: Using the newspaper to read for detail. Kit includes: OERB print and television ads, AP style manuals, research results and dictionaries.  Social Studies If I Had a Million Dollars: The impact of sudden wealth. No Uncertain Terms: A glossary of oil and natural gas terms. Baron Fruit: Important oil men and their legacies. The More Things Change: The changes in the people and places of Oklahoma brought on by the discovery of oil. Wildcatters and Roughnecks: The history of Oklahoma boomtowns. That Was When? This is Now: The history of Oklahoma oil and natural gas well drilling and cleanup. Kit includes: historical information on Oklahoma towns and people, costumes and props, and drilling information and historical videos.  Science How Long is the Hydrocarbon?: Hydrocarbon structures. The Big Lift: Investigating the effect of elevation on flow rate. Let it Flow: Investigating the flow rate of fluid. Hungry Microbes: A study of bioremediation. From Crude to Refined: Simulating fractional distillation. Kit includes: ring stands, molecular model kits, beakers and submersible fountain pumps.
