According to the American Gas Association (AGA), home appliances that run on natural gas save energy. The AGA ran a study in 2006 looking at natural gas usage. Researchers looked at annual use of natural gas in homes back to 1980. They found the average American home uses 30% less natural gas now than in 1980. The AGA notes that natural gas is three times more efficient than electricity in appliances like stoves, dryers and furnaces. In fact, the AGA reports that efforts to improve appliance technology have resulted in natural gas furnaces that are nearly 97% efficient. The AGA says homeowners powering their residences on natural gas tend to use less energy overall, even as worldwide demand for energy rises. More than 64 million American homes are heated with natural gas, says the AGA. For tips on how to save energy in your ho me visit the OERB's conservation page.
