According to the American Gas Association (AGA), home appliances that
run on natural gas save energy. The AGA ran a study in 2006 looking at
natural gas usage. Researchers looked at annual use of natural gas in
homes back to 1980. They found the average American home uses 30% less
natural gas now than in 1980. The AGA notes that natural gas is three
times more efficient than electricity in appliances like stoves, dryers
and furnaces. In fact, the AGA reports that efforts to improve appliance
technology have resulted in natural gas furnaces that are nearly 97%
efficient. The AGA says homeowners powering their residences on natural
gas tend to use less energy overall, even as worldwide demand for energy
rises. More than 64 million American homes are heated with natural gas,
